Important things to find out once you've ordered your LearnPads

 

Overview

Setting up LearnPads is really easy and if you’ll be the person setting up your school’s new LearnPads, there are just a few pieces of information that you should have on-hand. If you don’t know any of the below, just ask your school’s IT technician who should have access to all of this information.
In this article:
i. Wi-Fi
ii. Proxy
iii. Active Directory
iv. Colleagues’ e-mail addresses

i. Wi-Fi

Your LearnPads will connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi. Find out the following information:
                   The name (SSID) of your school’s Wi-Fi network – exactly as it is broadcast.
                   The password (key) for your school’s Wi-Fi network – exactly as it is broadcast.
                   The type of encryption that your school’s Wi-Fi network uses – WPA/WPA2, WEP or EAP.
                   Whether your school’s Wi-Fi network is hidden

ii. Proxy server

Most schools use a proxy server to filter the Internet and make it safe for students. Find out the following information:
                   Does your school use a proxy server? – If not, you don’t need to complete the next five steps.
                   Is your school’s proxy server transparent? – If not, you don’t need to complete the next four steps.
                   What is the host address of the proxy server?
                   What is the port number of the proxy server?
                   What is the username for the proxy server? - If necessary.
                   What is the password for the proxy server? – If necessary.
                   Exclusions – Are there any addresses that should not be accessed via the proxy server and if so, what are the addresses?

iii. Active Directory

Most schools have a Microsoft Windows Active Directory network. If you would like your students to log into their LearnPads using the same logins they use for your school’s Windows network, find out the following information:
                   The IP address of your school’s domain controller.
                   The full domain that your school uses (e.g. myschool.local).

iv. Colleagues’ e-mail addresses

Each of your teaching colleagues will need access to the ClassConnect Portal in order to create Lessons and manage their students’ LearnPads. Find out the following information:
                    Each of your colleagues’ school e-mail address.
