LearnPad Tablets for Schools: Using iTunes U

Using iTunes U

April 14, 2014

iTunes U contains online educational resources organised into “courses”. Many of these are free or contain free components that you might wish to include in your lessons.

You can access iTunes U with the free TunesViewer app. This allows you to browse the iTunes U directory and to jump to any particular page, such as the Welsh HWB collection, from Menu > Copy/Goto URL.

If you know the URL of the page you want to go to already, it is possible to open it directly with TunesViewer. For instance, The Education Wales HWB page URL is https://itunes.apple.com/gb/institution/addysg-cymru-education-wales/id557716076 . Add this URL as a web page actvivity, but be sure to change the UserAgent string to:

Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; CPU OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3

This UserAgent string is required to tell the iTunes server to redirect you to an iTunes reading application (it pretends to be an iPad).

Here is the finshed example: Education Wales on iTunes U
